CH.CH. VALIKHANOV INSTITUTE OF HISTORY AND ETHNOLOGY HELD A MEETING WITH RUSSIAN SCIENTIST V.T. TEPKEEV 


On September 13, 2022, a guest arrived at the Ch.Ch.Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology with an introductory lecture – Tepkeev Vladimir Toltayevich, Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher of the History Department of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Vladimir Toltayevich at one time took an active part in writing the third volume of the five-volume essay “The History of the Crimean Tatars”, which was performed in the city of Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan). He himself is the author of 4 monographs: “Oirats at the beginning of the XVII century”, “Kalmyks in the Northern Caspian region in the second third of the XVII century”, “Ayuka Khan and his time”. Currently, the director of our Institute invited a Kalmyk colleague to work on a 7-volume academic publication on the history of Kazakhstan as a co-author in the fifth volume on the problem of the Kazakh-Dzungarian wars, the peculiarities of Kazakh-Kalmyk relations, in particular on the history of the “Dusty Campaign” (Shandy Zhoryk) of 1771.

During the meeting, Vladimir Toltayevich told about the main activities of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Elista, and also acquainted the participants with some of the results of his scientific research on the history of the Kalmyk people. The meeting was held in an interactive mode, the staff of the Institute asked our guest a number of questions about the possibility of publishing their articles in scientific journals of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, included in the SCOPUS database (“Oriental Studies”, “Mongolian Studies”, “Bulletin of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences”), about some aspects of Kazakh-Kalmyk relations (there are whether there are Kazakh toponyms in Kalmykia, whether there are mentions of Kazakhs in the oral folklore of the Kalmyks, etc.). 

Summing up the results of today’s meeting, the director sincerely thanked today’s guest for his visit to our Institute and also made a proposal to hold a meeting on the ZOOM conference with the director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science “Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences” Victoria Vasilyevna Kukanova and discuss the details of further cooperation between the two sides. In particular, it is planned to conclude a memorandum of cooperation with the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Taking this opportunity, Z.E. Kabuldinov proposed to organize familiarization scientific trips of the parties, which would serve as a good reason for large joint scientific work in the future (in one large scientific project).
