Round table “Problems of socio-economic and cultural transformation of the Soviet peasantry in domestic and foreign historiography”


The Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov on September 22, 2022 at 10.00 a.m. held a round table on the topic “Problems of socio-economic and cultural transformation of the Soviet peasantry in domestic and foreign historiography”

The round table was held within the framework of the AP08052897 project “The peasantry of Kazakhstan in the post-war decade: social transformation and everyday life”.

The main directions of the round table:

  • coverage of issues of socio-economic and cultural transformation of the peasantry of Kazakhstan in the Soviet period in domestic and foreign historiography;
  • new archival materials and oral sources on the history of the Soviet peasantry in Kazakhstan;
  • socio-economic transformation of the peasantry in the 1920s-1930s in Kazakhstan;
  • everyday life and socio-cultural processes of the post-war peasantry;
  • coverage of the history of the peasantry in textbooks on the history of Kazakhstan.

The round table was attended by domestic and foreign scientists, public figures, doctoral students and undergraduates.

The moderators of the round table were the advisor to the Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Sh.Sh. Ualikhanov, chief Researcher, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor S.M. Borbasov and director of the branch of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Sh.Sh. Ualikhanov in Astana, PhD M.M. Kozybayeva. The round table was opened with a welcoming speech by the Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of History of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of Russia, Doctor of Historical Sciences A.A. Nikolaev. In addition, among the foreign scientists were the Vice-rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Z.K. Kurmanov, who spoke on the topic “On some topical issues of the Kazakh Holodomor and refugee in Kyrgyzstan” and senior researcher at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Candidate of Historical Sciences Sh.E. Ergashev “Struggle in the leadership of the USSR on the development of the country. The Rise of Stalin”.

Also, the round table was actively attended by researchers of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Sh.Sh. Ualikhanov, chief researcher, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor O.H. Mukhatova on the topic “Kenestik Kazakstannyn auyl sharuashylygyndagy reformalardi zertteu uderisteri”; chief researcher, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor A.T. Kapaeva “Soviet “modernization” in Kazakhstan in the 20-30s of the twentieth century and its consequences”; Advisor to the Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Sh. Sh. Ualikhanov, Chief Researcher, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor S.M. Borbasov “Shygys Turkistandagi 1941-1951 zhyldardagy Ospan Islamuly bastagan sharualar koterilisi”; chief researcher, Doctor of Historical Sciences, associate Professor A.I. Kudaibergenova “Kazakhstan Khalkyninii duniezhuzilik sogistan keyingi zhyldardagy aleumettik zhane demographiyalyk damuy”; leading researcher, Candidate of Historical Sciences G.U. Orynbayeva “The state of traditional culture in the Kazakh collective farm village in the post-war years”.

The active participation was also taken by young scientists, doctoral student of the 3rd year Karu imeni E.A. Buketova M.I. Ibraikhan spoke on the topic “Problems of replenishing labor resources in agriculture of central Kazakhstan in 1964-1985: the history of everyday life and regional specifics”.
