On October 13, 2023 at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University  (Almaty), together with the  Institute of History and Ethnology of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as part of the implementation of the research project «History of the Atyrau Region: from ancient times to the present day» (IRN AR09259623), a round table was held on the topic «History of the Atyrau Region: Problems and Development Prospects.»

It was attended by representatives of the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology , Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Institute of History and Law, research staff of the A. Marghulan Institute of Archeology, Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, Kh.B. Tabyldiev Research Institute «History, Archeology and Ethnology of the Caspian Region», and students.

The round table was moderated by Professor of the T.S. Sadykov Department of History of Kazakhstan of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Khalidullin G.Kh. The opening speech was made by the Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of History and Law, Candidate of Historical Sciences M.M. Muratkazin.

The project supervisor, Professor of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Candidate of Historical Sciences Zhumagulov B.S., was the first to present his report to the participants of the round table. Saying that «History of the Atyrau Region from Ancient Times to the Present Day»  is the first work in the history of Kazakhstan written by regions, the speaker noted that academic work is, in fact, the result of many years of research by scholars from the regions. The speaker also noted that the results of the project will be published in three languages and available for review not only in our country, but also abroad.

The project coordinator for volume 1, Khalidullin G. Kh., made a report on the topic «History of the Ancient City of Atyrau», in which he noted the achievements and shortcomings of the volume. Studying the cities of ancient Atyrau from a cartographic and archaeological point of view, researchers raised the important question of the presence of settlements on the site of the city before the arrival of the Russian Cossacks.

  Well-known historian, archaeologist, director of the Kh. B. Tabyldiev Research Institute «History, Archeology and Ethnology of the Caspian Region», Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Sapanov S.Zh. noted  that the discoveries of «Ancient Archaeological Monuments of the History of the Atyrau Region» were associated with specific, previously planned theoretical and methodological research developments.

Associate Professor of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University,  Candidate of Historical Sciences Kuanysh S. in the report «Socio-Economic Development of the Atyrau Region in the Early 20th Century» presented to the audience his vision of the problems of migrants from among the Russian Cossacks in the Atyrau region, the history of the indigenous population, as well as issues related to the socio-economic situation of the region.

Coordinator of volume 2, Associate Professor of the T.S. Sadykov Department of History of Kazakhstan of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Candidiate of Historical Sciences Ermukanov E.N. in his report on the topic “History of the Atyrau Region in Modern Times”  presented the suggestions and comments on the preparation of the volume.

The project executor, lecturer at the K.I. Satpayev Kazakh National Research Technical University,  Professor, Candidate of Historical Sciences Salkynbek D.I. in his report on the topic «Socio-political activities of Salimgerey Karatleuov» highlighted the issues of documents classified as «Top Secret» concerning personal data, as well as other previously not covered documents.

Coordinator of volume 3 Sarkenova K.A., researcher at the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology told the audience in detail about the materials identified in the local archive. Archival documents were found during research expeditions conducted in the Atyrau region.

Junior researcher at the Ch.Ch.. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology Kunekeyev A.D. familiarized the audience  with the issues of comprehensive research, introducing into scientific circulation the collected materials on the topic «The Rebellion of Isatai-Makhambet in the archives of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan».

In conclusion, the project supervisor, Professor at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University Zhumagulov B.S. exchanged views with teachers and researchers, thanked the project implementers, participants and organizers of the round table, noting that the study of regional history largely depends on young researchers.
