The Balasagun Kyrgyz National University hosted the International Conference «Political, socio-economic and ethno-cultural processes in Eurasia in the Middle Ages» within the framework of the international project «Big Altai», timed to the 955th anniversary of the writing of Zhusup Balasaguni’s work «Kutadgu bilig»


On May 30, 2024 in Bishkek in the Kyrgyz National University named after Balasagun the first day of the three-day international conference «Political, socio-economic and ethno-cultural processes in Eurasia in the Middle Ages» was held in the framework of the international project «Big Altai», dedicated to the 955th anniversary of the writing of Zhusup Balasaguni’s work «Kutadgu bilig».

The conference was attended by scientists from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, with reports on the place of Zhusup Balasaguni in the medieval Turkic world, political history and culture of medieval Turkic states, economic development.

The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by Chairman of the State Commission for the Development of Historical Science under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Koichiev, Minister of Education and Science D. Kendirbayeva, Rector of Altai State University S. Bocharev, Chairman of the Miras Foundation under the Presidential Administration K. Moldakasimov, Rector of the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn T. Abdyrakhmanov, General Director of the Institute of History and ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov, professor Z.E. Kabuldinov.

At the plenary session, Professor Z.E. Kabuldinov, General Director of the Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, spoke in detail about partnerships between historians of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, joint projects and events, as well as upcoming tasks.

From the Kazakh side, the conference was attended by Professor of the Kazakh branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Professor A. Orazbayeva, senior lecturer at Taraz State University A. Maksutova and other historical scientists. In addition to these scientists, it is expected that in the next two days about fifty scientists will speak online in 4 sections.

The report «The place of religious and spiritual processes in the study of the history of medieval Turkic peoples» was made by the acting Deputy Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov for External Relations, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Zhenis Zhomart.

Four sections worked at the conference: «Zhusup Balasagun – a great personality of Turkic peoples and sources on the history of Eurasia in the Middle Ages», «Political and socio-economic processes in Eurasia», «Ethnic, interethnic and cultural processes in Eurasia», «Archaeological and ethnographic research in the history of Eurasia».
