Dear colleagues!

September 25, 2024 the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology Science Committee of the  Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan holds a republican scientific-theoretical conference on «Relevance of studying the military affairs of nomads».

The aim of the conference – The military history of the nomadic peoples of the ancient and middle ages was not only pan-Eurasian, but also of world importance. The predominance of Eurasian nomads in terms of military affairs gave them political supremacy and determined the course and direction of world processes. Eurasian nomads, including Kazakh warriors, overcame the armies of a number of states and peoples of Europe and Asia in the ancient and middle ages and achieved great victories. The reason why Sak, Kipchak and other nomadic tribes of Eurasia won many wars is that the field military system was one of the most advanced military systems of the Middle Ages. He influenced the military affairs of neighboring countries, such as China, Iran, Byzantium and Russia, and had a great impact on the development of cavalry, especially archers. The military excellence of the nomads contributed to the creation of the Genghis Khan empire, which shook the whole world and was unparalleled. Military activity is an integral part of the military history of nomadic peoples of Eurasia. The study of military affairs and weapons allows us to reveal many important issues of the history of the nomadic peoples of Eurasia. The study of the weapon complex and its distribution in individual burial places helps to determine the character of the military-social slave of the ancient society, that is, the general level of social relations. And by analyzing individual types of weapons, their popularity and distribution area, it allows to determine the dynamics of mutual influence with neighboring countries from a cultural and political-military point of view.

Conference objectives:

to show the place and importance of military affairs in the socio-political life of a traditional nomadic society. This, in turn, influenced the formation of the value system of the steppe people and the motivation of their actions, the study of these issues will undoubtedly reveal our history.

The work of the conference includes the directions:

  • show the place of wars and military affairs in human history;
  • introducing the stages of formation of the field military system;
  • analysis of laws related to military affairs in the field legal system;
  • determining the role and place of weapons in traditions and customs;
  • to show the influence of the field military school on neighboring countries.
