Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of history and ethnology, department of «Historical demography and assembly of the people of Kazakhstan» on October 4, 2024 within the framework of the AR19678056 project «Cities of Kazakhstan in 20-30 years XX century as a socio-cultural phenomenon: ethno-demographic and socio-cultural development)» held an international scientific and practical conference on the topic «Socio-demographic and cultural problems of Kazakhstan’s development in the first half of the XX-th century», dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, doctor of historical sciences, professor M.-A.H. Asylbek.

The purpose of the conference was to discuss the socio-demographic and cultural issues of Kazakhstan in the first half of the XX-th century, as well as the contribution of M.H. Asylbekov to the development of socio-economic and demographic history of Kazakhstan. The conference also aimed to explore Asylbek’s scientific heritage and its relevance for modern historical research, as well as to promote patriotic and moral values among the younger generation through the study of his work.

The President of Kazakhstan, in his article, «Lessons of a historical personality», K.-Zh. K. Tokayev, noted that the path of history is never straightforward. There are ups and downs, sharp turns, and many people who criticize the past. However, there are also those who make bold decisions and lead society into new eras. These individuals are the ones who shape history. The place and importance of the individual in society was highlighted in the speech given on this day in honor of academician M.-A.H. Asylbek.

On this day, in tribute to many years of fruitful work, a memorial plaque was unveiled in honor of Academician of the National Academy of sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, doctor of historical sciences, professor Asylbek Malik-Aidar Khantemiruly, a presentation of books and works was held.

Congratulatory words were delivered by the following speakers:

Sayasat Nurbek – Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

Murat Zhurynuly Zhurynov – President of the RPA «National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan» and Academician;

The moderator of the conference was – Kabyldinov Ziyabek Ermukhanuly – Director General of the Ch. Valikhanov Institute of history and ethnology and Academician of the National Academy of sciences, doctor of historical sciences, professor.

The conference was attended by guests from various countries, including Turkey, Russia, Germany, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Karakalpakstan. It was held as part of a plenary session and several sections. In total, more than 70 articles by scientists from Kazakhstan and abroad were submitted for the conference collection. The plenary session of the international scientific and practical conference was attended by foreign guests and leading scholars from Kazakhstan.

Following the results of the conference, the following decisions were made:

1. To update research on socio-economic history, including the history of cities and culture of Kazakhstan;

2. To recognize the results of the conference dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the famous Kazakh historian M.H. Asylbek as satisfactory, to recommend a collection of materials for publication;

3. Apply to the Akimat of Almaty with a request to assign one of the streets named after Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, doctor of historical sciences, professor M.H. Asylbek;

4. Recommend that scientists continue their research on historical demography, including the history of the ethno-demographic development of the population of Kazakhstan, including the impact of migration waves on the formation of its social and national structure;

5. Identify current research areas devoted to the study of the history and culture of the people of Kazakhstan, as well as the history of the Kazakh diaspora and ethnic groups of Kazakhstan;

6. To intensify the training of young scientists in the field of historical demography and socio-economic history of Kazakhstan on the basis of an interdisciplinary approach, to include relevant topics in the list of recommended topics for the preparation of doctoral dissertations PhD;

7. Recommend to the scientific community to strengthen the preparation of publications on topical issues of historical demography of Kazakhstan in scientific journals of the Institute of History and Ethnology – «Otan Tarikhy» and the international electronic journal «edu.e-history.kz « (recommended by KOKSNVO RK);

8. Specialized research institutes, universities, and research centers should continue to study the contribution of famous scientists to the development of historical science in Kazakhstan, conduct scientific and practical events dedicated to anniversaries, and prepare publications on topical issues of the history of Kazakhstan;

9. Research institutes and universities should attract foreign partners, including from specialized scientific organizations of the near and far abroad, when developing projects on topical issues of historical demography;

10. To instruct the Department of historical demography and APK of the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology to prepare and publish the complete collection of scientific works of academician M.H. Asylbek;

11. The Department of historical demography and APK of the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of history and ethnology and the family of the scientist constantly replenish the M.H. Asylbek cabinet with new materials.
