On March 31, 2025, Institute of History and Ethnology after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov will hold a scientific seminar on the topic: “The traditional economy and culture of the Kazakhs in the first decades of Soviet power: inertial development, destruction and consequences (historical and ethnological research)” to review the results of the grant financing project.
The main goal of the project is to study the process of cultural development, the destruction of the nomadic economy of the Kazakhs, and subsequently the culture that was forced to adapt to the conditions imposed by the totalitarian regime in the first decades of the Soviet government (1920s–1930s).
Objectives of the project:
1) Following the historical and ethnological purpose of the project, to study the development of the traditional economy and culture of the Kazakhs in the 1920s, in the context of the initial, cautious, reforms of the Soviet government;
2) Study of the period of destruction of the economy and culture and the planting of a new type of economy and culture (late 1920s–early 1930s);
3) Analysis of the forced cultural adaptation of the Kazakh ethnic group after the planting of the collective farm system.
A collective monograph: «Очерки по истории традиционной структуры казахов в первые советские десятилетия» (– Almaty: LEM, 2022. – 455 pages.)» (Essays on the history of the traditional structure of the Kazakhs in the first Soviet decades) has been prepared and published for specialists in the history of Kazakhstan of the XX century, ethnologists, cultural scientists, students and all interested persons. 8 articles have also been published based on the research results. Of these: 1 article have been published in a peer-reviewed scientific publication indexed by the international databases Web of Science, Scopus, in a peer-reviewed foreign publication with a non-zero impact factor (RSCI), 4 articles have been published in a peer-reviewed domestic publication with a non-zero impact factor (recommended by SHEQAC).
We invite scientists, specialists, doctoral and undergraduates, and students to take part in a scientific seminar a more detailed study of the results of the research project “The traditional economy and culture of the Kazakhs in the first decades of Soviet power: inertial development, destruction and consequences (historical and ethnological research)”.
