On April 14, 2025, Institute of History and Ethnology after Sh.Sh. Valikhanov will hold a scientific seminar on the topic: “Development of a brief history of Kazakhstan for a foreign audience” to review the results of the project-targeted financing. The purpose of the program is to develop a brief history of Kazakhstan of a popular scientific nature for a foreign audience from the perspective of new conceptual approaches for the formation of objective knowledge about the centuries–old history of the Kazakh people in the context of world history within the framework of events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The work on the implementation of the program was carried out in stages and included the following activities:
– the scientific and popular science literature on the history of Kazakhstan, published in the country and abroad, has been collected and analyzed. In particular, the work was carried out by the Central Scientific Library (Almaty), the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty), the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Astana), as well as during business trips to libraries in foreign countries: the Russian National Library (St. Petersburg, Russia), the Russian State Library (Moscow, Russian Federation), the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi (Tashkent, Uzbekistan). In the course of this work, extracts were made in domestic libraries for writing specific sections, as well as bibliographic lists of references for a brief history of Kazakhstan, totaling more than 300 titles of scientific literature and published sources. 2727 sheets, mostly from rare pre-revolutionary publications, were photocopied in foreign libraries^
– the concept of developing a brief history of Kazakhstan and methodological documents for authors and experts (rules and recommendations) have been developed;
– international experience in the production of similar publications has been studied (“A Brief History of the USA” by Robert V. Rimini (2009), “A Brief History of England” by Simon Jenkins (2011), “A History of France” by Andre Mauroy (2007), “A Brief History of Germany” (2017), “The History of Russia from Rurik to Putin. People. Events. Dates” by E.V. Anisimovа) and expert opinions of leading historians on the concept and structure of the publication were obtained;
– scientific trips to Astana and abroad were carried out, as a result of which archival documents on the history of Kazakhstan were identified and excavated in the State Archive of Astana, RSHA (St. Petersburg, Russia), RSAAA (Moscow), the Historical Archive of the Omsk region, in the United State Archive of the Orenburg region, a total of about 5,000 l.;
– The following events were held: Methodological round table on the topic “Methodology, principles of the development of the publication “A brief history of Kazakhstan from ancient times to the present day” (for a foreign audience) and the mechanism of the project implementation” (Almaty, July 22, 2021), Republican scientific and practical conference “Relevance of the development of a brief history of Kazakhstan for a foreign audience as part of the practical implementation of K.-J.K. Tokayev’s article “Independence above all” ( Almaty, September 28, 2021), the International scientific and practical Conference “The main results of the brief history of Kazakhstan for a foreign audience in the framework of the practical implementation of K. Tokayev’s article “Independence above all” (Almaty, September 29, 2022), presentation of the layout of the book “A brief history of Kazakhstan from ancient times to the present day (for a foreign audience)” in front of domestic and foreign diplomats, organized Institute of History and Ethnology named after Sh.Sh. Valikhanov in cooperation with the Institute of State History (Astana);
– 2 collections of conference materials on 22 pp have been prepared and published;
– published in peer–reviewed scientific publications indexed in the Social Science Citation Index or the Arts and Humanities Citation Index of the Web of Science database and (or) having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 35 (thirty-five) – 4; peer-reviewed domestic publications recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Education and Science (hereinafter – SHEQAC) – 15, in foreign rating journals (RSCI) – 4, in republican journals – 5, in mass media – 25, in conference proceedings – 90. Made presentations – 14.
We invite scientists, specialists, doctoral and undergraduates, and students to take part in a scientific seminar a more detailed study of the results of the project-targeted financing “Development of a brief history of Kazakhstan for a foreign audience”.
