INFORMATION LETTER


on the International Scientific and Practical Conference
“Kyrgyz-Kazakh Histories of the 18th–19th Centuries”

On June 12, 2025, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Kyrgyz-Kazakh Histories of the 18th–19th Centuries” was held at Jusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University. The conference took place in the university’s small assembly hall and brought together leading historians, scholars, and researchers from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

A significant highlight of the event was the participation of Kazakh colleagues, who visited Bishkek at the invitation of the Kyrgyz side. As part of academic cooperation, representatives of the Chokan Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology (Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan) visited Kyrgyzstan to engage in scholarly exchange and to discuss shared historical themes.

Opening remarks were delivered by:

  • D.T. Chontoev – Rector of Jusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University, Ph.D., Professor;
  • Arslan Kapai uulu – Advisor to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • K.S. Moldokasymov – Representative of the “Miras” Foundation under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • A.A. Asankanov – Director of the B. Jamgyrchinov Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Academician.

During the plenary session, both Kyrgyz and Kazakh scholars presented their research. Among the participants from Kazakhstan:

  • Shamek Bayanuly Tileubaev – Candidate of Historical Sciences, Deputy Director for Research at the Chokan Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology – presentation: “Kazakh-Kyrgyz Intellectual Interaction in the Early 20th Century”;
  • Rashid Eshenuly Orazov – MA in History, researcher at the Chokan Valikhanov Institute – “The Last Battle of Kenesary Khan: Course and Consequences”;
  • Mambet Kuldzhabayuly Koigeldiev – Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Professor at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Doctor of Historical Sciences – presentation on the political situation in Zhetysu in the 1840s;
  • Nabizhan Mukhambetkhanuly – Professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Doctor of Historical Sciences – research on Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations in the 18th century.

Kyrgyz scholars from KNU named after J. Balasagyn, B. Karasaev Bishkek State University, and the Institute of History of the NAS KR also presented their works.

The conference highlighted the strong level of academic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, as well as the commitment of both countries’ scholarly communities to deepening ties in the fields of history and the humanities.

A collection of scientific papers is planned for publication following the results of the conference.
