On July 3–4, 2025, the “Seminar of Young Historians of the Turkic World” was held in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, at the Atatürk High Institution of Culture, Language and History (Bilkent Campus). This scholarly gathering aimed to bring together young researchers from Turkic countries and to strengthen mutual cooperation in the study of shared history.
The seminar’s opening ceremony took place on July 3 at 10:00 AM. The first welcoming speech was delivered by the President of the Turkish Historical Society, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Özgen, who wished success to the seminar participants. Congratulatory messages were also read on behalf of the President of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Serkan Kayalar, and the President of the Atatürk High Institution of Culture, Language and History, Prof. Dr. Derya Örs.
The seminar continued with thematic sessions. Presentations on July 3 covered significant historical periods such as “Archaeology and Art History,” “Pre-Islamic History of Central Asia,” and “From the Acceptance of Islam to the Formation of the Ottoman State.” Scholars such as Prof. Dr. Musa Kadoğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Yılmazayasar, Prof. Dr. İlhan Şahin, Prof. Dr. Uğur Bulduk, Prof. Dr. Aydın Usta, and Prof. Dr. Sadullah Gülten gave lectures during these sessions.
On July 4, the seminar continued with the themes “The Turkic World in the Ottoman Era,” “The Ottoman Empire and the Turkic World in the Modern Age,” and “The Turkic World in the 20th Century and Today.” Among the speakers were Prof. Dr. Yunus Koç, Prof. Dr. Dinçer Koç, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özcan, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Gündoğdu, Prof. Dr. Haluk Selvi, and Prof. Dr. Hikmet Öksüz.
At the end of the seminar, a final session was held with the participation of all attendees, during which proposals for future scientific collaborations and joint projects among young historians were discussed.
Young scholars from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Tatarstan, and Kosovo took part in this event. The seminar was recognized as an important platform aimed at reviving the spiritual unity and historical memory of the Turkic world.
From our institute, young researchers – Kuanish Madievich Murzakhodzhaev, Nurlybek Aidarbekovich Dosymbetov, Farhat Rashiduly Lebaev, Erzhan Maraluly Kurkeev, and Samat Zhumatay – participated in the seminar. They actively engaged in the presentations and discussions held within the seminar, contributing their scholarly insights in their respective fields. Additionally, they established academic connections with several foreign colleagues, strengthening cooperation among the youth of the Turkic world.
The seminar provided young researchers not only with access to new historical knowledge but also the opportunity to refine their academic direction and acquire fresh ideas. As a platform, the event was notable for offering a renewed perspective on the shared history of Turkic peoples and laying the foundation for future research.
The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including the civilizations of early Turkic peoples, political and cultural transformations during the adoption of Islam, Turkic unity during the Ottoman period, and the cooperation of Turkic states after the Soviet era and the independence period. Emphasis was placed on the importance of conducting research in accordance with modern scholarly demands using fresh perspectives and sources.
Overall, the seminar greatly contributed to the acquaintance, academic networking, and exchange of ideas among the new generation of historians in the Turkic world. Organized by prestigious scientific institutions of the Republic of Turkey, this event was recognized as one of the key initiatives with high scholarly potential, paving the way for deeper academic cooperation among Turkic nations in the future.
