Dear colleagues!
The Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Chokan Chingsovich Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology cordially invite you to participate in the International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled «Statecraft of Ablai, Wali, and Bokey Khans: Historical Sources and Issues of Scholarly Interpretation», to be held on 16 September 2025.
The aim of the conference is to conduct a comprehensive study of the life and state activities of Khans Ablai, Wali, and Bokey, to identify the specific features of their political, social, and diplomatic work. In addition, the conference seeks to introduce into scholarly circulation newly discovered archival materials and historical documents concerning the activities of the rulers of the Kazakh Khanate and to carry out their in-depth analysis.
The conference is expected to bring together historians, sociologists, political scientists, philosophers, and other scholars from Kazakhstan and from near and far abroad who are engaged in research on these topics.
The conference will address the following thematic areas:
- Current issues in the history of Khans Ablai, Wali, and Bokey;
- Examination of newly discovered historical sources relating to the history of the Kazakh Khanate;
- New perspectives and approaches concerning Kazakh sultans, batyrs, and biys of the era of Khans Ablai, Wali, and Bokey;
- Scholarly interpretation of historical sources – new perspectives on source studies and methodological issues;
- Relations of the Kazakh Khanate with neighboring states: political and trade relations;
- New aspects in the scholarly interpretation and study of historical sources.

Speakers from other cities may participate in the conference remotely. The conference proceedings will be published in PDF format and sent to participants via e-mail.
The Organizing Committee plans to publish the conference proceedings in PDF format prior to the event.
To be included in the conference program, participants are required to submit the registration form to the Organizing Committee (see attached).
Only thoroughly reviewed and edited texts will be accepted for publication.
Scholars, researchers, university professors, doctoral and master’s students from both near and far abroad are invited to participate in the forum.

Requirements for article formatting:
Articles should be no longer than 10 pages of typed text in electronic format. Font: Times New Roman, size – 14 pt; line spacing – single; justified alignment; paragraph indent – 1 cm; page orientation – portrait; margins: top and bottom – 2.0 cm, left – 3.0 cm, right – 1.0 cm.
Title formatting (uppercase, bold, centered): ARTICLE TITLE; Next line (bold italic, right-aligned): Full Name; Next line (italic, right-aligned): academic title, academic degree, position, place of work, city; Next line (italic, right-aligned): email for contact; One line below – the article text. References in the text should refer to the corresponding source in the reference list using Arabic numerals in square brackets, e.g., [1, p. 277]. Automatic footnotes are not allowed.
A summary should be provided at the end of the article: in Kazakh and English – for articles in Russian; in Russian and English – for articles in Kazakh.
The manuscript should be accompanied by author information, including full name, academic degree, title, place of work and position, city, country, postal and email addresses, and contact phone numbers.
- Please ensure the text is free of spelling, punctuation, and stylistic errors.
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to select articles that meet the declared topics and formatting requirements.
