Dear colleagues!
On September 30, 2025, Institute of History and Ethnology after Sh.Sh. Valikhanov will hold a scientific seminar on the topic: “New declassified Russian archives about unknown pages of the life and work of Kazakh khans, sultans, batyrs (XVIII – first half of the XIX centuries)”. The purpose of the scientific seminar is familiarization with the results of the project to publish unknown episodes of the life and work of prominent Kazakh statesmen and military figures of the era of modern history based on declassified documents from Russian archives.
During the implementation of the project, the research group relied on generally accepted methods of scientific research, including descriptive, historical-comparative, critical, quantitative, as well as substantive analysis. The results of the research and their novelty are determined by studying the life and work history of the Kazakh khans Abylai, Uali and Kenesary, Sultans Abilpeyiz, Yeraly, Khankozha, etc., as well as Kulsary, Syrym, Sarzhan, Zholaman, Zhankozha and Yeset with an emphasis on Russian archival data. The scientific results of 2022 were reflected in the publications published under the project: a monograph in three languages – 3, a collection of documents – 1, an article in a foreign peer–reviewed scientific publication indexed on the international database Scopus – 2, an article in a peer–reviewed foreign publication with a non-zero impact factor (RSCI) – 1, an article in a non-zero impact-factorial edition (recommended by the National Scientific and Scientific Council) of articles – 8, publications in the media – 4.
Scope of application: History of Kazakhstan, History of Russia, History of Western Siberia, History of Kyrgyzstan, History of China, History of Central Asia. Also, the data and sources obtained can be successfully used in local history, museum business, as well as when writing works in the format of microhistory.
We invite scientists, specialists, doctoral and undergraduates, and students to participate and express their opinions in the scientific seminar “New declassified Russian archives about unknown pages of the life and work of Kazakh khans, sultans, batyrs (XVIII – first half of the XIX centuries)”.
