On November 25, 2025, the city of Almaty hosted the 1st International Scientific Forum titled: “The Legacy of Chokan Valikhanov: Modern Approaches to the Study of the History and Ethnology of Central Asia”, dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the prominent Kazakh scientist, traveler and ethnographer

This forum, organized by the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, marked a significant first international event dedicated to the scientific legacy of its namesake. The forum was held in hybrid format (offline and via Zoom).

Forum Moderator: Shamek Tleubaev – PhD in History, Associate Professor, Deputy Director for Science at the Institute.

Keynote speakers included renowned scholars:
• Abylabek Asankanov – Director of the B. Djamgerchinov Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnology (Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek), Doctor of Historical Sciences, Academician.
• Klara Khafizova – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Academician, UNESCO Centre for the Rapprochement of Cultures, Almaty.
• Nick Fielding – Researcher-journalist (UK, Oxford).
• Makhabbat Kopturov – Chairman of the Russian-Kazakh Friendship Center named after Valikhanov (Russia, Omsk).
• Gulzhan Nazymbetova – Director of the K.I. Satpayev Memorial Museum, Doctor of Philosophy (Kazakhstan, Almaty).
• Bakytjamal Aitmukhambetova – Head of Department at the Satpayev Memorial Museum (Kazakhstan, Almaty).
• Saule Dulati – Chairwoman of the International ‘Kazakh Language’ Center in Russia (Orenburg).

The forum brought together distinguished historians, ethnographers, and researchers. Working languages were Kazakh, Russian, and English.
