On December 23, 2025, as part of the 13th Nussupbekov Readings, the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology will hold a International scientific and practical conference. The conference will focus on the topic: “Academician Akai Nussupbekov and his role in the development of domestic historical science and the creation of the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology.”
Academician Akai Nussupbekovich Nussupbekov is an outstanding Kazakhstani historian and organizer of national historical science. A participant in World War II, awarded medals and orders for his military service, he headed the Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnography in 1956 and served as its permanent director for more than 26 years (1956–1982). Historian A. Nussupbekov developed three areas of research in his scholarly work: the first was concerned with assessing the nature of the Kazakh people’s liberation movement in the second half of the 18th century; the second with research into the formation and development of Kazakh Soviet statehood; and the third was devoted to studying Kazakhstan’s contribution to Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In 2024, to celebrate the scholar’s 115th birthday, the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology prepared and published a collection of his scholarly works in five volumes, each with a 1,000-copy edition.
The conference is being held in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Institute of History and Ethnology and the 190th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kazakh scholar, geographer, and ethnographer Ch.Ch. Valikhanov, whose name the Institute of History and Ethnology now bears.
As part of this scientific event, the 9th International Scientific and Practical Conference of Young Historians, “ Past and present of the science of history of Kazakhstan: dialogue of generations” will be held.
The conference of young scientists-historians is open to students, undergraduates, doctoral students and young scientists under the age of 40. Young scientists, whose reports are recognized as the best, will be awarded with nominal scholarships.
The purpose of the conference is to study the contribution of Academician A. Nussupbekov to the development of historical science and the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, define his role as a scholar and historian, an organizer of national science, and highlight his life. In addition, a discussion of current issues national history is planned.
The conference will be held in the following areas:
- The life and work of Academician Akai Nussupbekov: his scholarly legacy and its significance;
- problems of historical science and interdisciplinary communication;
- new areas of research and development prospects;
- new positions and approaches in modern historical science;
- Actual problems of the history of the fatherland and young scientists;
- source and historiographic changes;
- problems of archeology and ethnology;
- problems of archival and scientific research.

A summary is provided at the end of the article: in Kazakh and English for articles in Russian; in Russian and English for articles in Kazakh.
