On December 23, 2025, the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov held an International Scientific and Practical Conference within the framework of the XIII Nusupbekov Readings on the topic “Academician Akay Nusupbekov and his role in the development of national historical science and in the formation of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov

.”The event was organized by the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov and was conducted in both offline and online formats using the Zoom platform, which ensured broad international participation.

The conference was devoted to comprehending the scientific and organizational legacy of the outstanding Kazakh historian, Academician Akay Nusupbekov, a participant of the Second World War, a major organizer of national historical science, and the long-term director of the Institute from 1956 to 1982.

The conference was timed to coincide with the following anniversaries:
• the 80th anniversary of the Institute of History and Ethnology;
• the 190th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kazakh scholar Chokan Valikhanov, whose name the Institute bears.

Within the framework of the forum, the IX International Scientific and Practical Conference of Young Historians titled “Historical Science of Kazakhstan in the Past and Present: A Dialogue of Generations” was also held. It was attended by students, master’s students, doctoral candidates, and young scholars under the age of 40.

The main areas of the conference included:
• the life and activities of Academician Akay Nusupbekov and the significance of his scientific legacy;
• problems and prospects for the development of historical science;
• interdisciplinary connections in historical research;
• new methodological approaches in contemporary historiography;
• current issues of national history;
• source studies and historiographical transformations;
• issues of archaeology, ethnology, and archival research.

Scholars and researchers from Kazakhstan and foreign countries took part in the conference. The working languages of the forum were Kazakh, Russian, and English.

Following the results of the conference, a collection of scientific papers and presentations reflecting the outcomes of discussions and the research presented is planned for publication.
