The Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology will hold an international scientific and practical conference on April 7, 2026, entitled “Kayum Mukhamedkhanov in the History of 20th-Century Kazakhstan and His Scientific and Cultural Heritage.”
Kayum Mukhamedkhanov (1916–2004) was a scholar, author of the lyrics to the National Anthem of the Kazakh SSR (1945), organizer of the first state literary and memorial museum of Abai in Semey (1940), researcher and textual critic, poet, writer, playwright, translator, teacher-mentor, and public figure. K. Mukhamedkhanov’s scientific and cultural legacy, and his service to his homeland, remain particularly relevant in the 21st century. His multifaceted work is associated with the preservation of layers of national culture, the introduction of significant historical documents and materials into scientific circulation, and the systematization of them.
In the scientific community, the need to develop an independent field—”kaiymtanu”—as a comprehensive interdisciplinary study of his legacy (historical, philosophical, psychological, etc.) is emphasized. In the educational sphere, there is a pressing need for a systematic study of the scholar’s life and academic and cultural legacy in courses on the history of Kazakhstan and related disciplines.
The conference will be an important platform for the scholarly understanding of the scholar’s legacy and the study of his role in the history of Kazakhstan, which is significant for the preservation of historical memory in culture, science, and education.
The purpose of the conference: to contribute to the development of historical science and the national culture of sovereign Kazakhstan; to promote the development of “Adal Azamat” through ethics in science and the preservation of spiritual and historical continuity.
Conference areas of work:
- Preserving historical justice in relation to K. Mukhamedkhanov by perpetuating his name and achievements.
- Examination of K. Mukhamedkhanov’s multifaceted contribution to the preservation and development of science and education.
- Justification for the need to integrate materials about K. Mukhamedkhanov into the teaching of Kazakhstan’s history in universities and schools.
- Understanding the scholar’s historical continuity of concepts, the historical destiny, and service to the people (including within the framework of the thematic areas “Father and Son”, “Brave Kazakh”, “Teacher and Student”, “Abai-Alash”, “Spiritual Continuity”).”).
- K. Mukhamedkhanov during the repressions against scholars and creative figures of the 1950s.
- The fate of the scholar in the Soviet reality of the 1960s-1980s.
- The relevance of K. Mukhamedkhanov’s legacy in modern times.
We invite scholars, teachers, research institute staff, doctoral students, master’s students, young researchers, and all interested parties to participate in the conference.

Article Format Requirements:
Articles should adhere to the following requirements: up to 10 pages of typewritten text in electronic format. Font: Times New Roman, size: 14; line spacing: 1; justified alignment; paragraph indent: 1 cm. The page orientation is portrait, the top and bottom margins are 2.0, the left margin is 3.0, and the right margin is 1.
The heading should be formatted (capital letters, bold, centered) as follows: ARTICLE TITLE; on the next line (bold italic font, right-aligned) – full name; on the next line (italic font, right-aligned) – academic title, degree, position, place of work, city; on the next line (italic font, right-aligned) – contact e-mail; 1 line below – the text of the article. In-text references to the corresponding source in the bibliography should be formatted using Arabic numerals in square brackets, for example, [1, p. 277]. The use of automatic pagination links is not permitted.
A summary is provided at the end of the article: in Kazakh and English – for an article in Russian; In Russian and English – for articles in Kazakh.
Attached to the manuscript is the author’s information, including their last name, first name, patronymic, academic degree, rank, place of work and position, city, country, as well as postal and email addresses and contact phone numbers.
