From 28 June to 8 July 2026, Professor Orazgul Khasenkyzy Mukhatova, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Chief Researcher at the Sh. Sh. Walikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Mars Qadilbek, Junior Researcher, carried out a research visit to the Republic of Türkiye within the framework of the research project AR26194453, “Unknown Pages of the History of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Policy from the Late Sixteenth to the Eighteenth Century (Based on Foreign Archival Materials)”
The primary objective of the research visit was to collect and systematize archival documents and historiographical materials preserved in the archival and manuscript collections of Türkiye relating to the foreign policy and international relations of the Qazaq Khanate during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
During the visit, comprehensive research was conducted at the Ottoman Archives of the Directorate of State Archives under the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye and the Süleymaniye Library. Research in the archival collections led to the identification of documents concerning the foreign policy of the Qazaq Khanate, the diplomatic relations of Qazaq rulers with neighboring states, the international relations of the Central Asian khanates, and the relations of the Ottoman Empire with the Qazaq Khanate, the Khanates of Bukhara, Khiva, Crimea, and other regions.
In addition, electronic copies of eighteenth-century publications and contemporary historiographical studies relevant to the project were obtained. The archival documents and research materials collected during the visit will be comprehensively studied and introduced into scholarly circulation.
