On 13 July 2026, the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology hosted a meeting with Dr. Vladimir T. Tepkeev, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Leading Research Fellow at the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences
The meeting focused on prospects for further cooperation in the study of the history of the nomadic peoples of Eurasia, archival research, and the implementation of joint research projects.
Special attention was given to publishing research in Scopus-indexed journals, current international publication standards, and opportunities for expanding academic cooperation.
The Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology and the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences have maintained productive academic relations for several years. Their cooperation includes joint research projects, co-authored scholarly publications, participation in international conferences, and the exchange of research experience.
Dr. Vladimir Tepkeev is one of the leading specialists in the history of Kalmykia, the Oirat people, and the nomadic societies of Central Asia. His research focuses on the history of the Kalmyk Khanate, Russian–Kalmyk relations in the eighteenth century, and archival sources on the history of the Eurasian Steppe.
The meeting marked another step toward strengthening academic cooperation and expanding research partnerships between scholars from Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
