The Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov has published the monograph “Qozhabergen Batyr Zhanibekuly” by the Institute’s research fellow Aknur Amangeldyevna Oralova (Almaty: TURAN Publishing House, 2026. – 232 pages. ISBN 978-601-80679-4-5)
The monograph is devoted to the life and activities of the prominent 18th-century Kazakh batyr Qozhabergen Zhanibekuly. Drawing upon archival documents, genealogical records (shezhire), and oral history sources, the author comprehensively examines his contribution to safeguarding the territorial integrity of the Kazakh Steppe, his military and diplomatic service, and his role in relations with neighboring states and peoples.
A particular scholarly value of the publication lies in the introduction into academic circulation of 43 archival documents directly related to Qozhabergen Batyr and preserved in the archives of the Russian Federation. These materials significantly enrich the documentary base for the study of Kazakhstan’s eighteenth-century history.
The monograph was recommended for publication by the Academic Council of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov (Minutes No. 3, April 23, 2026).
