DEAR COLLEAGUES!
The Ch. Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan invites you to participate in the International Scientific and Practical Conference «The Irtysh Region in the XVIII-XIX Centuries: History and Socio-Economic Processes».
The purpose of the conference is a comprehensive study of the history of the formation, functioning, and impact of the Irtysh ten-verst strip on the political, socio-economic, and demographic development of North-Eastern Kazakhstan in the XVIII – early XX centuries, the introduction of new archival documents into scholarly circulation, as well as the discussion of contemporary approaches to the study of colonization processes, land relations, and Kazakh-Russian interaction in the Irtysh region.
The conference will include discussions on the following areas:
– History of the formation and functioning of the Irtysh Military Line;
– Land relations and land use in the Irtysh region in the XVIII – early XX centuries;
– Role of the Kazakh political elite in resolving land and territorial issues;
– Kazakh-Russian and Kazakh-Cossack relations in the region;
– Tax policy of the Russian Empire and the remount duty;
– Lease relations and economic activities of the Kazakh population of the ten-verst strip;
– Migration and demographic processes in North-Eastern Kazakhstan;
– Historiography and contemporary methodological approaches to the study of colonization processes and land relations in Kazakhstan.
Historians, ethnologists, folklorists, archivists, university lecturers, researchers, doctoral students, master’s students, young scholars, as well as representatives of archival and cultural institutions are invited to participate in the conference.
The conference will be held in offline and online formats.
