I am glad to welcome you to the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov!

Our Institute has been operating for more than 75 years and thanks to its activities, professional historians have created a historical chronicle of the Kazakh people and their heroic ancestors, it reflects more than 2500-year-old tradition of statehood, the successor of which is the current Republic of Kazakhstan.

As it is known, special importance is currently attached to the formation of a new historical consciousness, free from Eurocentrism, new Kazakh patriotism, strengthening of statehood and national identity. This position has repeatedly and consistently been reflected in speeches and policy documents of the country’s top leadership, including in the article of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev “Tauelsizdik barinen kymbat” (the newspaper “Egemen Kazakhstan” dated January 5, 2021).

The staff of the Institute makes significant efforts in this direction through fundamental research in the field of historical science, ethnology and anthropology, historiography and source studies through the implementation of scientific projects and programs, the publication of scientific and popular scientific publications, conferences, round tables, training of young scientists, etc. This website will help you get acquainted with the current activities of the Institute and its staff.
