Report on the Scientific and Organizational Work Carried Out by the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology in 2024

The plan for the scientific and organizational work of the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology was approved on January 16, 2024. It also included a number of assignments received from the Science Committee. During 2024, anniversary dates were commemorated at the republican and international levels. These included the 800th anniversary of the Ulus of Jochi, the 125th anniversary of Kanysh Imantayuly Satpayev, the first president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, the 120th anniversary of academician A.Kh. Margulan, the 100th anniversary of Khalel Argynbayuly Argynbayev, and other important dates. The institute’s departments were tasked with organizing and holding conferences dedicated to these dates. In accordance with the assignments given, the departments successfully organized and conducted these conferences. We express our gratitude to the organizers for their work.

1. On April 3, 2024, to mark the 125th anniversary of Kanysh Imantayuly Satpayev, an International Scientific and Theoretical Conference entitled “THE PHENOMENON OF ACADEMICIAN K.I. SATPAYEV AND NATIONAL SCIENCE OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY: CONTEMPORARY APPROACHES AND ISSUES OF INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH” was held.
2. On April 5, 2024, a Republican Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the Ulus of Jochi was held on the topic “THE ULUS OF JOCHI AND ISSUES OF STATE IDENTITY IN KAZAKH HISTORY.”
3. To mark the 100th anniversary of Sagadat Nurmagambetov, the first Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Hero of the Soviet Union, a Republican Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Sagadat Nurmagambetov in Service to the Motherland” was held on May 28, 2024.
4. To mark the 100th anniversary of academician A.Kh. Margulan, an International Scientific and Theoretical Conference entitled “THE LEGACY OF ACADEMICIAN A.KH. MARGULAN AND HIS ROLE IN THE HISTORICAL SCIENCE OF KAZAKHSTAN: NEW APPROACHES AND DIRECTIONS” was held on May 22, 2024.
5. On June 12, 2024, within the framework of the project “Zhetysu Figures of the Alash Movement: Their Fate and Legacy,” a Republican Scientific and Practical Conference was held on the topic “THE ALASH MOVEMENT IN THE ZHETYSU REGION: HISTORY AND INDIVIDUAL FIGURES.”
6. On September 17, 2024, a scientific and theoretical round table was held on the topic “DEMOGRAPHIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN: TRENDS AND PROBLEMS.”
7. On September 19, 2024, a Republican Scientific and Theoretical Conference was held on the topic “Little-Known Aspects of the State Activity of Abylai, Uali, and Bokey Khans.”
8. On September 27, 2024, at the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “The 5th Argynbayev Readings” was held, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the well-known ethnologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Khalel Argynbayuly Argynbayev. This scientific event was jointly organized by the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Central Scientific Library of Gylym Ordasy.
9. On October 8, 2024, an International Scientific and Practical Conference was held on the topic “KAZAKHSTAN IN THE 1960s-1980s: D.A. KUNAYEV’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE REPUBLIC.”
10. On October 15, 2024, an International Scientific and Practical Conference was held on the topic “District Administration in the National Regions of the Russian Empire in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century and the Early Twentieth Century: Principles of Organization and Mechanisms of Operation.”
11. On October 24, 2024, a Scientific and Practical Conference was held on the topic “ADMINISTRATIVE GOVERNANCE OF THE KAZAKH STEPPE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE REGIONAL POLICY OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE.”
12. On December 30, 2024, to mark the 115th anniversary of academician Akai Nusupbekov, the Republican Scientific and Practical Conference “ACADEMICIAN AKAI NUSUPBEKOV AND PRESSING ISSUES OF NATIONAL HISTORY IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY” was held within the framework of the 12th Nusupbekov Readings.

The conference was attended by Abyl Erkin Amanzholuly, Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Professor; Zhaksylyk Sabitov, PhD and Director of the Institute for the Study of the Ulus of Jochi; Mukhtar Abilseit Kapezuly, head of the Sarayshyk Museum Complex, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Professor; Kydyr Torali, leading researcher at the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art, Candidate of Philological Sciences, and Associate Professor; as well as a number of scholars from the Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology led by the Institute’s General Director Ziyabek Yermukhanuly, all of whom delivered reports. The conference was held within the framework of the fundamental research project “Historical Traditions of Kazakh Statehood and Issues of Preserving National Identity.”
