On April 12, 2023, in the conference hall of the Central Scientific Library “Gylym Ordasy”, a round table “Actual issues of preparing and holding the 125th anniversary of the birth of Academician K.I. Satpayev” was held, organized by the Memorial Museum of Academician K.I. Satpaev with the participation of the Institute of History and Ethnology. Ch.Ch. Valikhanov (hereinafter referred to as the Institute). The event was moderated by Bazarbai Yerkebaevich Altaev, head of the Club of Friends of the Museum of Academician K.I. Satpaev. The Institute was represented by the Deputy Director for Public Relations A.T. Abdulina and director of the Center for the preparation of a 7-volume academic publication on the history of Kazakhstan A.S. Waltaev. More than 30 people participated in the round table – scientists – geologists, historians, museum workers, as well as students of gymnasium No. 56 in Almaty, named after K.I. Satpaev, under the guidance of the head teacher F.M. Smailova.

It should be noted that April 12, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 164 dated October 20, 2011, is defined as the “Day of Science Workers”. Historically, this holiday was timed to coincide with the birthday of Academician K.I. Satpaev. Kanysh (Gabdulgani) Imantayevich Satpaev (April 12, 1899 – January 31, 1964) – a prominent geologist, doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, organizer and first president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Eleonora Yusupovna Seitmuratova, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Geological Sciences named after A.I. K.I. Satpaeva, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor. She dwelled on the merits of Academician Satpayev in the formation of the Institute of Geology – his favorite brainchild, the history of the discovery of the Dzhezkazgan copper deposit by him, contrary to the opinion of the authorities in the field of geology of that time about the futility of this area. She called on schoolchildren to be interested in geological science and to replenish the cadres of geologists, with whom there is a shortage in the country. Meruert Kuatovna Abuseitova, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke about the role of K.I. Satpaev in support of young scientists in science, not only geologists, but also historians, in particular, about the joint research of Academician Satpaev, who was keenly interested in Kazakh culture and history, and ethnographer A.Kh. Margulan.

Candidate of Historical Sciences A.T. Abdulina, in her report “The main achievements in the field of historical research at the Chokan Valikhanov Institute of Economics in recent years (2018-2023)”, dwelled in detail on scientific projects in which the life of the outstanding scientist Satpayev was studied – “Great names of the Great Steppe” (2019 .), “Development of a brief history of Kazakhstan from ancient times to the present day (for a foreign audience)” (2021–2022), “Development of the academic publication “History of Kazakhstan from ancient times to the present day” in seven volumes” (2021–2023) and etc., and also put forward proposals for holding a republican competition of scientific works among schoolchildren and students about Academician K.I. Satpaev, involvement in the organization of his anniversary of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where the personal fund of an outstanding statesman and scientist is kept, numbering more than 7,000 items. Candidate of Historical Sciences A.S. Waltaeva put forward a proposal to celebrate the 125th anniversary of K.I. Satpayev under the auspices of UNESCO, which will raise this event to the world level.

An employee of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Astana) A. Kuzerbay proposed to involve the international organization of Turkic culture TURKSOY in the organization of anniversary events. Director of the State Enterprise “Museum of the History of Mining and Smelting in the Zhezdy village named after Makena Toregeldin (Karaganda region) Z.Z. Kazanbayeva spoke about the unique artifacts associated with academician Satpaev, kept in the museum.

Bakhytzhamal Akhmetgalievna Aimukhambetova, Head of the Department of the Memorial Museum of Academician K.I. Satpayeva, who headed the museum for many years and put a lot of effort into its development and replenishment of funds, spoke about the need to increase funding for the museum to strengthen its material and technical fund, and to intensify information activities among the younger generation. It is planned to create an exposition that reveals the chronicle of the life and work of the scientist in the tense years of the Great Patriotic War and the post-war years, his contribution to the formation and development of science in Kazakhstan.

The work of the round table was very fruitful, the participants came to the conclusion that it is necessary to prepare in advance for the celebration in 2024 of the 125th anniversary of Academician K.I. Satpayev, preparation of written proposals for its organization, and schoolchildren got acquainted with a person who wholeheartedly served the cause of science in Kazakhstan!
