On June 6, 2023, at the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch. Valikhanov, Deputy Director for Science Tleubaev Sh.B., Deputy Director for Public Relations Abdulina A.T. and Scientific Secretary Kurmanalina N.N., a meeting was held with the Director of the State Archive of the Akhal Velayat of the Republic of Turkmenistan (RT) A.K. Akmammedov and the head of the self-accounting Department of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Turkmenistan Ya.Z. Atayev, held with the participation of Deputy Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences Alimgazinov K.Sh.

Turkmen guests for the first time in our country at the invitation of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, they are interested in establishing contacts with archivists and historians of Kazakhstan. During the meeting, both sides agreed on the need to sign memorandums of cooperation in the future.

K.S. Alimgazinova explained: “Turkmenistan is interesting to us as a Central Asian state, with which we need to develop cooperation in archives and science. The archives of Turkmenistan contain historical documents from 1947, since earlier sources were lost during the earthquake in Ashgabat. Currently, the State Archive of the Akhal Velayat is working on recruitment issues with more than 300 organizations, whereas, for example, in the Archive of the President we are working with 47 organizations. We are very interested in getting advice from our Turkmen colleagues-archivists on the maintenance of funds, assistance in copying documents, but permission to work in Turkmen archives must be obtained through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”.

The STATE ARCHIVE OF TURKMENISTAN is the main archival department under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the state archival institutions included in its structure are guided in their activities by the legislation of Turkmenistan. The central, Velayat and city state archives of Turkmenistan carry out the acquisition, permanent storage, accounting and use of documents of the National Archival Fund of Turkmenistan to meet the needs of society, the state, and citizens.

The meeting was also attended by a scientist-ethnologist of the Institute, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Akhmet Ualkhanovich Toktabai, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Historiography, Source Studies and Modern Methodology A.T. Kaipbaeva.
