On June 1, 2023, at a joint expanded meeting of the Department of World History and External Relations of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Chokan Valikhanov and the Faculty of History of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies held a preliminary defense of the PhD thesis of Rakhmetolla Zakarya.

The discussion took place at 11.00 on the Zoom platform in a mixed format.

The topic of R. Zakarya’s dissertation work was approved on the basis of the meeting of the Academic Council of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on October 23, 2019 (Order No. 4-5637).

The extended meeting was attended by the Institute of History and Ethnology: Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Kabuldinov Z.E., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Ualtayeva A.S., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Tleubaev Sh.B., Candidate of Historical Sciences. Abdulina A.T., employees from the Department of World History and External Relations, Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies of the Historical Faculty of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University: Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Kartabayeva E.T., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Sabdenova G.E., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Mukhazhanova T.N., and also the teaching staff of the Institute of History and Law:Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abai, Ph.D., Associate Professor Zhumagulov B.S.

The chairman of the expanded meeting was the Candidate of Historical Sciences, associate Professor M.S. Kalybekova.

Chairman of the extended meeting: “According to the results obtained by the dissertation, a total of 11 scientific publications have been published, of which 5 articles are in publications included in the list approved by the Supreme Control Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 1 article is in publications included in the Scopus database, 3 reports are in collections of international, republican scientific andpractical conferences and symposiums”.

Zakaria Rakhmetolla presented a report on his dissertation work on the topic: “The policy of the Soviet government in relation to European emigrants and immigrants (20-40s of the twentieth century)”. The report outlines the content, purpose and objectives of the dissertation work, the relevance of the topic, the novelty of the research, the main scientific results obtained, theoretical and practical significance, forms and methods of research, and the principles submitted for defense.

R. Zakarya’s dissertation on the scientific novelty, volume, significance of the results obtained and the high theoretical and experimental level of the research carried out met the requirements of the Committee for Control and Certification in the Field of education and Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan “rules for awarding academic degrees” to the works recommended for the search for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy PhD under the educational program 8D02206 – “History” it was found that the work can be recommended for protection.
