CH. CH. VALIKHANOV INSTITUTE OF HISTORY AND ETHNOLOGY

Dear colleagues!

On December 5, 2023, the Institute of history and Ethnology named after sh. Ualikhanov will hold a methodological seminar on the topic “new methods of studying the population census in Kazakhstan”. The purpose of the methodological seminar is to show the main facts of the census materials in determining the population.

The census is like a photograph of the population at a certain time. It is necessary not only to find out the population of the country, but also to analyze the historical changes that occurred between the censuses and determine the demographic situation. The purpose of the census is to meet the information needs of users for statistical data on demographic, social and economic issues at the regional, national and international levels. The task of the census is to collect, develop and disseminate information about the specific characteristics of the population for a certain period of time.

Census data is used to develop forecasts and programs of socio-economic development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for state bodies and other users. For example, data on the age-gender composition of the population, for example, the dynamics of the preschool group, will be used to determine the needs of the preschool and school-age population group for receiving medical care, institutions in the field of education, etc. It, in turn, allows us to predict the pace of construction work, and, accordingly, the possible demand for specialties. Or, the quantitative dynamics of the part of the population of retirement age is used in the preparation of programs for work related to this part of Social Security, in solving problems related to retirement, in clarifying the pace of the aging process of the population, etc. This can be continued. Most importantly, high-quality census data is also needed to analyze the demographic situation in the country, identify changes and, accordingly, develop and implement state programs.

Therefore, we invite interested scientists, specialists, doctoral students and undergraduates, students to take part in our methodological seminar dedicated to the study of such an important topic.
