On April 03, 2024 Ch.Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of the CS MSHE RK, holds the International Scientific and Theoretical Conference (hereinafter referred to as the Conference) “The phenomenon of academician K. I. Satpayev and domestic science of the twentieth century: modern approaches and problems of interdisciplinary research” dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the first Kazakh academician Kanysh Imantaevich Satpayev, organizer of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR and its first president, founder of the school of metallogeny of the Soviet Union and Kazakhstan.

Kanysh Imantaiuly was born on April 12, 1899 in the Bayanaul district of the Pavlodar region (former Akkelinskaya volost of the Pavlodar district of the Semipalatinsk region) in the family of Imantai bi. The future scientist studied at the aul mullah, then studied at the Russian-Kazakh school in Pavlodar, at the Semipalatinsk Teachers’ Seminary, and at the mining department of the Tomsk Technological Institute. He studied at the teachers’ seminary together with Zh. Aymautov, M. Auezov and others.

From 1920 to 1941 – people’s judge of Bayanaul, head of the geological department of the Atbasstimet trust, geological exploration department of the Karsakbay copper plant, chief geologist of the plant. From 1941 to 1952 he worked as director of the Institute of Geological Sciences as part of the Kazakhstan branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Kazakhstan branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, chairman, president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. In 1952, for formal reasons, he was removed from the post of president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR and transferred to the Ural branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. There Satpayev served as chairman of the branch for three years. In 1955, he was re-elected to the position of President of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, where he worked until the end of his life.

The scientist’s main scientific works are devoted to the geology of Kentass ores and the mineral resources of Kazakhstan. He introduced into science a complex method of formational metallogenic analysis. In 1927-1928 K.I. Satpayev published scientifically significant works on the Zhezkazgan, Karsakbay, Atbasar, Spassky regions, the Karaganda coal basin and the Karatau polymetallic ores. In addition to copper, the iron, manganese, coal, and lead ores were discovered and explored in the Zhezkazgan-Ulytau region, which made it possible to draw important geological conclusions. With the support of Satpayev, the Central Asian Geophysical Trust was organized in the capital of the Kazakh SSR, and the Ministry of Geology and Subsoil Protection of the Kazakh SSR was established. K.I. Satpayev organized the Kazakhstani Academy of Sciences, its departments, institutes, laboratories, sectors, bases. He carried out research on the construction of the Zhezkazgan mining and metallurgical plant, the Karaganda and Balkhash metallurgical plants, the Irtysh-Karaganda canal, and the determination of the natural resources of the Mangistau, Mugalzhar, and Turgai regions.

In addition to geology, the scientist was interested in studying the history and cultural heritage of the Kazakh people in the field of social science. K.I. Satpayev removed the Arabic and Tatar words that were incomprehensible to Kazakh readers, from the text of the epic “Edige” recorded by Ch. Valikhanov, and re-prepared it on the basis of the new spelling of the Kazakh language. Having studied artifacts from the ethnographic heritage of the Zhezkazgan-Ulytau region, he wrote the work “Ancient Monuments of the Zhezkazgan Region.” Prepared the first textbook “Algebra” for students of junior and senior grades of Kazakh secondary schools. K.I. Satpayev gave a scientific explanation in Russian for 25 songs included in Zataevich’s collection “500 Kazakh Songs and Tunes” published in 1931.

At the end of a sentence, a period is placed after the reference. Tables are typed in the MS WORD editor. The list of references used is indicated at the end of the article (numbering without dots). The file name should match the full name of the first author.
