Results of the implementation of the PTF project “Development of a Brief History of Kazakhstan for a Foreign Audience” in the reporting period for 2021-2023


Currently, the “Development of a Brief History of Kazakhstan for a Foreign Audience” (hereinafter referred to as the Program), approved by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 3, 2021 No. 464, is being implemented as part of program-targeted funding for 2021-2022 through non-competitive procedures. Executor Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov (hereinafter referred to as the Institute).

Work on the implementation of the program was carried out in stages and included the following activities:

– collected and analyzed scientific and popular science literature on the history of Kazakhstan, published in the country and abroad. In particular, the work was carried out at the Central Scientific Library (Almaty), the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty), the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Astana), as well as during business trips in libraries of foreign countries: in the National Library of Russia (Almaty). St. Petersburg, Russian Federation), Russian State Library (Moscow, Russian Federation), National Library of Uzbekistan. Alisher Navoi (Tashkent, Uzbekistan). In the course of this work, extracts were made in domestic libraries for writing specific sections, as well as bibliographic lists of literature for a brief history of Kazakhstan, totaling more than 300 titles of scientific literature and published sources. In foreign libraries, 2727 sheets were photocopied, mainly from rare pre-revolutionary publications;

– a concept for the development of a short history of Kazakhstan and methodological documents for authors and experts (rules and recommendations) were developed;

– studied international experience in the production of similar publications (“A Brief History of the United States” by Robert V. Rimini (2009), “A Brief History of England” by Mr. Simon Jenkins (2011), “A History of France” by Andre Maurois (2007), “A Brief History of Germany” (2017), “History of Russia from Rurik to Putin. People. Events. Dates” by E. V. Anisimova) and received expert opinions from leading historians on the concept and structure of the publication;

– scientific trips were made to Astana and abroad, as a result of which archival documents on the history of Kazakhstan were identified and copied in the State Archive of Astana, RSHA (St. Petersburg, Russia), RSADA (Moscow), Historical Archive of the Omsk Region, in the Joint State Archive of the Orenburg Region, a total of about 5000 sheets;

– the following events were held: Methodological round table on the topic “Methodology, principles for developing the publication “A Brief History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day” (for a foreign audience) and the mechanism for implementing the project” (Almaty, July 22, 2021), Republican scientific and practical conference “The relevance of developing a short history of Kazakhstan for a foreign audience in the framework of the practical implementation of the article by K.-Zh.K. Tokaev “Independence is above all” (Almaty, September 28, 2021), International scientific and practical conference “Main results of a brief history of Kazakhstan for a foreign audience in the framework of the practical implementation of the article by K.-Zh.K. Tokayev “Independence is above all” (Almaty, September 29, 2022), presentation of the layout of the book “A Brief History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day (for a foreign audience)” in front of domestic and foreign diplomats, organized by the Institute of History and Ethnology named after. Ch.Ch. Valikhanov together with the Institute of State History (Astana);

– a layout of the manuscript of the specified book in Russian was prepared (100%, volume – about 629 pages, 39 sheets), which includes 8 main sections, starting from antiquity and ending with the events of early 2022, the period of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

IV “KAZAKH KHANATE” (mid. XV – early XVIII centuries) Temirgaliev Radik Dzheksenbayevich – historian, member of the board of the scientific and educational fund “Aspandau” (Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan).

VIII INDEPENDENT KAZAKHSTAN (1991 – present) Ayagan Burkitbai Gelmanovich – Deputy Director of the Institute of State History, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor (Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan).

– received expert opinions on sections 1–8 and reviews of the layout of the book “A Brief History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day (for a foreign audience)” from 3 experts and 4 reviewers;

– authors and special editor Temirgaliev R.D. finalization and editing of texts was carried out according to the comments of experts, the scientific supervisor of the project Kabuldinov Z.E., coordinator Abdulina A.T. and domestic and foreign reviewers;

– sections 1–8 of the book were transferred for translation;

– prepared and published 2 collections of conference materials of 22 printed sheets;

– published in peer-reviewed scientific publications indexed in the Social Science Citation Index or Arts and Humanities Citation Index of the Web of Science base and (or) having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus base of at least 35 (thirty-five) – 4; peer-reviewed domestic publications recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Education and Science (hereinafter – CQASHE) – 15, in foreign rating journals (RSCI) – 4, in republican journals – 5, in the media – 25, in collections of conference materials – 90. Made presentations – 14.- In 2023, it is planned to publish a popular science book – “A Brief History of Kazakhstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day (for a foreign audience)” in the amount of 3,000 copies in Kazakh, Russian and English.
